From 17 to 23 March, Libraries Tasmania is celebrating all things reading for Tasmania Reads Week.
Now in its second year, Tasmania Reads is an annual week-long celebration filled with fun reading events and activities for all ages across libraries and businesses statewide. There are author talks, writing workshops, and so much more – you can learn more about the Tasmania Reads program here.
Tasmania Reads Week’s 2024 theme is Try something new – such as a new format, a new genre, or a new book group. Libraries Tasmania is encouraging people to discover and rediscover the joy of reading, and embrace reading in daily life.
Libraries Tasmania’s key activities for the week are Book Chats – casual gatherings where people come together to share book recommendations, favourite stories, and other bookish business. During Tasmania Reads Week, Book Chats will be hosted in libraries, local businesses, schools, and offices.
Book Chats make reading social and celebrate reading for pleasure. People are more likely to read, and to experience the benefits associated with reading – including higher education outcomes, better quality of life, and improved health and wellbeing – if they read socially, choose their own reading material, and read for fun. With Book Chats, Tasmanians will experience the joy of social reading, and celebrate the books they choose to read.
Download a range of fun Book Chatterboxes, to print and use with your friends, family, and colleagues.
