Federal Election campaign to support reading launched

As the election race kicks off in earnest, Australia Reads has joined forces with partners from across the industry to advocate strongly for investment in books and reading.

Fair policies and investment are vital as reading rates decline, school libraries are cut, business costs rise, author earnings fall, and AI disrupts creativity.

We’re calling on the incoming Government to fund a national reading strategy to engage all Australians in the benefits of reading, alongside calls to action to support authors, publishers, libraries and bookshops.

Explore our key asks for the election below, and find out how you can get involved in advocacy efforts to support reading in Australia.

Want to show your support?

Many candidates won’t be aware of the urgent need to invest in books and reading.

Engage your local candidates by inviting them to a book launch you’re holding, sending them our campaign platform, or asking them to share what they’re reading in their newsletters.

You can also download a pack of posters and social tiles, and share your support on social media.
