Geoff Hutchison

Author of General Nonfiction

based in WA

In 2022 Geoff hung up his headphones after a long career as an ABC broadcaster.  Before that he was a journalist on the 7.30 Report and a one time Foreign Correspondent, where he managed to accumulate no war stories of note beyond accidentally finding himself on the wrong side of a fence in the grounds of the White House and being interrogated by the Secret Service as a possible intruder.

He has also received a seemingly random phone call from Muhammad Ali, appeared as an extra in Robert Altman’s 90’s classic The Player and in one of the great comedic injustices of our time, failed to graduate from an impromptu comedy course at the esteemed Groundling Theatre in Los Angeles.

Geoff is intensely curious and reckons he has seldom worked a day in his life.  It has been one of great privilege. Talking to people, witnessing extraordinary moments, and coming to the understanding that the things we share are far more significant than those that divide us.

In July 2025 Geoff’s first book “How NOT to Become a Grumpy Bugger” will be released by Affirm Press.
