Australia Reads recognised for its innovative and collaborative approach to building reading rates in Australia and world-first reading research.
Australia Reads has been named as one of 5 organisations on the shortlist for the 2026 International Publishers Association Innovation in Publishing Award.
The Award seeks to recognise groups or individuals whose work implements innovative publishing practices that can be replicated by others and benefit the industry.
Australia Reads was recognised for its innovative and collaborative approach to building reading rates, as well as its work commissioning and sharing the Understanding Australian readers report – a world-first research project with Monash University’s BehaviourWorks Australia which uses behavioural science to better understand the drivers and barriers to Australians reading for pleasure.
This report provided the foundation for the recently published Reaching Australian readers report, with Creative Australia and BehaviourWorks Australia, which looks at effective behavioural strategies for getting more Australians reading.
“We’re delighted to have this international recognition for our rigorous approach to reading research, and for the way we’re bringing the Australian book and library sector together to focus on increasing national reading rates.”
– Anna Burkey, CEO Australia Reads
Congratulations to all the fellow shortlistees for the award: Abbecedario Inclusivo, Ailaysa Technologies, Shimmr and Supadu Smart Buy Buttons.
The winner will be announced at the 35th International Publishers Congress in July 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
