Get ready for Love Your Bookshop Day

This year’s Love Your Bookshop day will be held on October 11 with the theme: “Discover the Magic. Discover You.”

Love Your Bookshop Day (LYBD) is an annual celebration of everything that makes local bookshops special—from knowledgeable staff and handpicked book selections to fun events that bring authors, readers, and stories together.

LYBD ‘aims to reignite Australians’ love of reading and remind people that no matter one’s life stage, local bookshops are spaces of discovery, inspiration and connection’, according to the organisation.

In crafting this year’s theme, BookPeople – a founding member of Australia Reads – took inspiration from our recent Understanding Australian Readers report, produced with Monash University’s BehaviourWorks Australia.

As part of LYBD 2025, BookPeople are looking to spotlight real life stories of people who have (re)discovered themselves following a visit to a local bookshop. If you’ve had an experience that you would like to share with the world, then please let us know here. It could be anything – from meeting your partner at your local bookshop, finding comfort during a difficult time while chatting to a bookseller, or simply stumbling on a book that changed your life.

BookPeople CEO Robbie Egan said, ‘We want to encourage people to find the right book for right now – whether that means trying a new genre or rediscovering an old favourite. There is a book for everyone, and your local bookshop is the best place to start exploring, because booksellers know how to help you find what speaks to you, sometimes even when you aren’t sure what that is.’
