Suneeta Peres da Costa is based in Sydney ~ on unceded Gadigal Country. She writes fiction, non-fiction, plays and poetry. The Prodigal, her debut poetry collection, was published by Giramondo in 2024. Her previous book, a novella, Saudade (Giramondo, 2018; Transit Books USA & Canada, 2019) was shortlisted for the 2019 Australian Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, the 2020 Adelaide Festival of Literature Awards, and a finalist in the 2020 Tournament of Books (USA). Homework (Bloomsbury, 1999), her first novel, was shortlisted for the Nita Dobbie Award.

Suneeta has received awards, fellowships and residencies from, among others, Creative Australia, Create NSW, Asialink Arts, The Copyright Agency, The Bundanon Trust, Varuna – The Writers’ House, The Corporation of Yaddo and MacDowell. Over the years, she has worked with the National Gallery of Victoria, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Sydney, the National Museum of Australia, Sydney Review of BooksMeanjinLIMINALPerilHeatSoutherly and Mascara Literary Review among other organisations. She is a gifted and experienced creative writing mentor, teacher and editor, having worked mostly with young adults and university students. Suneeta holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College, New York.
