Nicole Hayes is an award-winning writer and podcaster, and a popular writing teacher. Her YA novel, One True Thing was the winner of the Children’s Peace Literature Award and finalist in WA Premier’s Literary Award, and is a CBCA Notable book.
A Shadow’s Breath was a finalist in the NSW Premier’s Award, the Gold INKY Awards and is a CBCA Notable book. The Whole of my World, a YA #MeToo story set in the world of AFL, was longlisted for the Gold Inky Award. She co-authored AFL junior fiction series with Adrian Beck, Little Legends, a special issue edition, Little Legends: The Midding Cup for Australia Reads.
She collaborated with Alicia Sometimes on the anthology, From the Outer: Footy like you’ve never heard it and junior fiction, A Footy Girl’s Guide to the Stars of 2017, (Black Inc). Nicole is a founding member of the groundbreaking, all-female AFL podcast and radio show, The Outer Sanctum, and has a PhD in Creative Writing from Deakin University where she teaches writing.
Other publications include: The Guardian , The Saturday Paper, The Griffith Review, and in books including: #MeToo: Stories of the Australian Movement, Balancing Acts: Women in Sport. Nicole regularly delivers presentations and workshops at schools, festivals, and other public/media events.
