Maura Pierlot is an award-winning author, playwright and filmmaker who writes across art forms for children and adults. She is the author of three picture books: Alphabetter – A Better You and Me, from A to Z (Affirm Press, 2024), What Will You Make Today? (Storytorch Press, 2023) and The Trouble in Tune Town (Little Steps Publishing, 2017).
Her latest releases, Clutterbugs (picture book) and The Lies We Tell Ourselves (YA novel) will be out in 2025 with Big Ideas Press. Maura’s groundbreaking work on youth mental health, Fragments: Journeys from Isolation to Connection, premiered to a sellout season on stage and has been adapted as a hybrid YA novella, web series and feature-length film anthology.
Maura is the Founder of The Book Bench Project, a community literacy initiative in Canberra, a Role Model and Sponsor for Books in Homes Australia, and recipient of CBCA NSW’s Aspiring Writers Mentorship Award, the Charlotte Waring Barton Award and Hothouse Theatre’s SOLO Monologue Competition.
Prior to writing, Maura was a medical writer/producer, ethicist, editor of Australian Medicine and business owner. She holds a doctorate in philosophy, specialising in ethics, and divides her time between Canberra and Jamberoo, NSW.
