Liz Evans

Liz Evans is a British writer, journalist, author and novelist, currently based in lutruwita/Tasmania where she is an Adjunct Researcher at the university. She spent the 1990s as a music journalist in London (NME, Kerrang! etc) and published two books on women and rock culture for Pandora/HarperCollins before retraining as a psychotherapist.
Since moving to Australia, she has written for a wide range of titles, including Womankind, Island Journal, TasWeekend, Dumbo Feather, Lunch Lady, The Age and The Guardian. Her debut novel, Catherine Wheel (Ultimo Press, 2024), was completed for her PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Tasmania where she has taught English & Writing and Media units as an Associate Lecturer. Her fiction has been awarded two fellowships from Varuna as well as the Katherine Susan Prichard Centre, and an Educational Residency with Arts Tasmania.
Liz is represented by Curtis Brown and is currently working on her second novel, about women and rock music, for Ultimo Press. She was a judge for the 2025 Tasmanian Fiction Prize, is a regular cultural commentator on ABC Radio, and a literary critic for The Conversation. In 2026, she will be teaching the Faber Academy’s first course in Hobart, ‘Writing A Novel’, and releasing her Arts Tasmania funded literary magazine podcast.
