Karen Tyrrell is an award-winning Brisbane child-empowerment author, Children’s Rights Ambassador and Gifted & Talented school teacher. In 2024, Karen won the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Award with picture book, Let’s Play (Play Matters Australia). In 2023 Karen wrote Logan Then & Now celebrating past and present, indigenous history, mapping and #HASS. In 2023, Karen’s humorous mental health novel Andy & Ghost Boy placed second in the Forevability Awards, and the 2023 CYA Published Authors Competition. Her Song Bird eco series includes Song Bird: Rainforest Rescue, Song Bird: Great Barrier Reef Rescue and Song Bird: Drought Resue. Karen is a keynote speaker and writing workshop facilitator, presenting mental health, eco, local history and Children’s Rights topics. With husband Steve, Karen served as an Author in Residence in Outback Queensland for 10 days.
