Julie Murphy writes engaging picture books to captivate young readers. A former zoologist and zookeeper, Julie writes fiction and nonfiction books inspired by her love of animals and nature, often weaving in themes of acceptance and belonging.
Julie’s books have been published in Australia and the USA, translated into foreign languages and appear on four states’ Premier’s Reading Challenge booklists. Her recent work includes the ABIA shortlisted 2025 Small Publishers’ Best Picture Book, Dog Beach, and Good Reading Magazine’s 2024 Best Children’s Books title, Cheer Up, Blobfish!
As a dedicated advocate for literacy, Julie enjoys creating stories that encourage imagination, empathy and a connection with the natural world. She is an experienced children’s presenter who loves to inspire and encourage children in their own reading and writing adventures.
