Jess Galatola lives by the bay with her two wriggly children. She is a mother, educator, curriculum leader and children’s author who loves to write with humour and heart. Her award winning debut children’s book, Some Families Change, received an Able Book Award. Jess has three more books to be released with EK Books for kids, The Little Breeze (2025), Words Stick (2026) and The Lost Umbrella (2027). With a background in Drama and English teaching, she is passionate about early literacy and helping young people to feel confident, empowered and understood. She believes all children deserve representation and understanding. Jess loves to work with students of all ages, through storytelling, performance, play and writing.

"Early literacy is the surest way to set a child up for success and to give them equitable access to learning and future opportunities. I believe that picture books are magic windows into early literacy but beyond that, they are beautiful representations of the world, ways of being and help to normalize themes of diversity, love, friendship, resilience (to name just a few) for children. A child should be able to see their own story in a picture book, to help them to understand the world around them. As a mother, teacher and children’s author, with over 15 years of experience in teaching Drama, English and pushing for Arts advocacy, I am passionate about working with children to foster a love, fascination a deep curiosity around reading."
