Hasib Hourani is a writer, editor, arts worker and educator currently living on unceded Wangal Country. Born stateless in Bahrain, Hasib grew up between the Kulin Nation and the Gulf, returning to Australia in 2016. Writing and publishing since 2019, his practice disrupts expectations of place, archive and the relationship between the two.

He is a 2020 recipient of The Wheeler Centre’s Next Chapter Scheme and his 2021 essay, ‘when we blink’ was shortlisted for the Liminal & Pantera Press Nonfiction Prize and is published in their 2022 anthology, Against Disappearance. Hasib was awarded the Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund in 2022 and has been a fellow at Varuna: The National Writers’ House in 2021 and 2022.

Hasib’s debut publication, rock flight, was published in September 2024 by Giramondo (AUS), October 2024 by Prototype Publishing (UK) and February 2025 by New Directions (USA). A book of poetry on displacement and migration, excerpts of the work have been published in Australian Poetry Journal, Cordite Poetry Review, and in Haymarket Books’ upcoming anthology of Palestinian poetry, Heaven Looks Like Us.
