Diana Plater

Diana Plater is a writer, journalist and playwright. Her novel, Whale Rock, was awarded Gold for Popular Literary Fiction in the 2019 Global Ebook Awards.
She’s the co-author with Ollie Smith of Raging Partners, short-listed for a 2001 NSW Premier’s Literary Award. Other work includes a chapter for the National Library of Australia’s Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of indigenous child separation, her book, Taking Control: How to aim for a successful pregnancy after miscarriage, stillbirth or neo-natal loss and a play, Havana, Harlem.
Other chapters include Aboriginal people and ‘community’ in the Leichhardt municipality in Minorities: cultural diversity in Sydney and Writing Travel Profiles, in Travel Writing 101: Everything you need to know to start the best job in the world.
Diana’s written for a wide variety of media. Her story on the Darling River (Australian Geographic, January 2021) was a finalist for Outstanding Reporting on the Environment, NRMA Kennedy Awards for Excellence in Journalism, 2021.
Diana has a Master of Arts in Creative and Cultural Practice from Western Sydney University. She has taught journalism at the University of Technology, Sydney and The University of Sydney.
She is presently working on her second novel, The Cedar-getter’s Granddaughter.
