Dani Netherclift

Author of Poetry

based in VIC

Dr Dani Netherclift is the author of Vessel, published by Upswell in late 2024 and written in part to fulfil the obligations of her creative arts PhD. Vessel is a hybrid of memoir, essay and prose poetry—an elegiac lyric essay about how we use reading and writing to process loss over time. In 2024, Netherclift’s lyric essay ‘Read as a Boy’ won second prize in Portside Review’s Human Rights Essay Prize and was later one of a small nonfiction shortlist for the Woollahra Digital Literary Prize. She has previously won first prize in the inaugural The Local Word prize and the Slow Canoe/AAWp Creative Nonfiction Prize for emerging writers. In 2024 and in recent years, her work has been shortlisted, highly commended, or honorably mentioned in the Westerly/ AAWP life writing prize, the Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Writing, the AAALs Nonfiction Prize, and the Roderick Centre Fellowship for Regional and Remote Writers. Her essays and poetry have been published or are upcoming in Antipodes, 5 Island’s Press anthology Oystercatcher One, Island Mag, Westerly, Portside Review, Meanjin, Saltbush Review, Mascara, Stilts, Rabbit, Cordite and others. Netherclift is the previous editor of Swamp Journal and the current president of the Mansfield Readers and Writers Festival committee.
