Charlie was born in London, in the UK, but she calls Australia home now. She has worked as a teacher, a performer, a fruit picker, and a bookseller. Compassion and tolerance are important themes in her books. She is passionate about looking after our planet and treating others with respect and kindness. Charlie writes characters who collaborate with friends, family and community to make things better in their world.

Her published books include Mallee Boys (2017), Indigo Owl (2020), The Sugarcane Kids and the Red Bottomed Boat (2022), Raised by Moths (2023) and The Sugarcane Kids and the Empty Cage (2024). The third Sugarcane Kids adventure is coming out in 2025 and a new picture book.

Charlie’s books have won awards and been recognised on shortlists. These include 2016 Winner Adelaide Festival Unpublished Manuscript Award, 2018 CBCA Honor Book, 2020 Text Prize Shortlist, 2022 Winner of The Reading’s Children’s Prize, 2023 Winner Davitt Award: Children’s Crime Novel, 2023 CBCA Notable Book, 2024 CBCA Notable & Shortlisted Book.
