Carla Salmon
Author of Young Adult Fiction
based in QLD
Carla Salmon is an author and Highly Accomplished Lead Teacher (HALT) at Brisbane Grammar School.
Her action-packed mystery for 11+ readers We Saw What You Started (Pan Macmillan July 2025) follows new boy Otto and club champion Milly, who refuse to sell out the most popular kid when their surf lifesaving club is sabotaged.
For ten years, Carla has worked with students in Years 6-12, teaching storytelling in many forms as an English, History and Drama teacher. She’s all about creating dynamic learning experiences and guiding lifelong learners to develop powerful communication skills because they want to.
Before Carla was in classrooms, she was a communications professional in public relations and marketing in London and Australia. As Bond University’s Manager of International Programs, she developed partnerships with universities in Asia and Latin America, travelling regularly to meet students and their families. In this role, Carla was inspired to pursue a career as an educator.
Now, she loves combining her experience in communication and education industries as an author, driven to share her passion for great story telling with young readers and writers. Her stories are inspired by her country coastal childhood, where sports ruled and beach campsites were paradise. Relatable characters with heart and humour navigate her stories, much like the students in her classrooms today.
Carla is available for writing workshops for students, teachers and parents. She also loves chatting about her work as a panellist or presenting to larger groups with presentations catering for specific client needs.
