Brian Falkner is a well-established, multi-award-winning author with a career spanning more than 20 years and 22 novels for children and young adults, beginning with The Flea Thing (2003). His books have been published in 12 countries and have received widespread acclaim. He lives in Queensland.

He has won the NZ Children’s Choice Award, the Sir Julius Vogel Science Fiction Award, the NZ Children’s Book Award, and the Ngaio Marsh Award. His books have been selected for the Lone Star Reading List (Texas), the Junior Library Guild (USA), and in Australia shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, Queensland Literary Awards, and the Australian Historical Novel Prize (YA).

In 2022, Brian was awarded the prestigious Creative New Zealand Berlin Residency. He was also selected for the University of Iowa Writing Residency (2008) and chosen to represent New Zealand children’s literature at the Frankfurt Book Fair (2012). Two of his novels have been optioned for motion pictures.
