Julia Lawrinson

Julia is a writer and presenter from Western Australia. Since 2001, she has published 18 books for children and young people, many of them recognised in the Children’s Book Council of Australia awards, the Queensland Literary Awards, and the Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards. Her 2024 memoir How to Avoid a Happy Life was shortlisted for both the Western Australian Premier’s Book Award Fellowship and the Premier’s Book Award for Nonfiction. Her latest book, Trapped! The Entombed Miner of Bonnievale received Novel Insight’s Critics Choice Award for upper primary school, was shortlisted for the Western Australian Premier’s Book Award, and won the NSW History Prize for young adult writing.
