Huda Hayek

Author of Children’s Fiction

based in WA

Huda Hayek is the second-youngest of seven children and was born to Lebanese-Australian parents. She is the author of the CBCA Shortlisted Huda and Me and the CBCA Honour Book Huda Was Here.

Growing up, Huda struggled with reading and writing, but that never stopped her from dreaming about working with words. After studying Mass Communication and Teaching, she went on to work as a primary school teacher and journalist before becoming an author.

Huda loves telling stories about kids from different backgrounds and helping young people see themselves in books. She enjoys speaking to young Australians about storytelling, identity and what it means to be Australian, Muslim and Lebanese — with plenty of encouragement, laughter and mischief along the way.
