Sophie Masson

Born in Indonesia of French parents, who are themselves of mixed ethnicity: Basque, Spanish, Portuguese and French-Canadian as well as French, Sophie Masson AM was brought up in France and Australia and now lives in regional NSW.

Sophie is the multi-award-winning author of over 80 books, for children, young adults and adults, many of which have been published internationally. Her most recent titles for children include Sabina and the Cats of Rome (chapter book, illustrated by Laura Wood, 2024): Satin (picture book, illustrated by Lorena Carrington, 2023) which was awarded a Notable Books citation in the 2024 CBCA Book of the Year Awards, and The Key to Rome (middle grade historical novel,  2023). Forthcoming is Bold Ben Hall (middle grade historical novel, 2025) and The Giant (picture book, illustrated by Lorena Carrington, 2025). Her most recent adult fiction title is A Secret Garden in Paris (2024), the second of her books to be published under the pseudonym of Sophie Beaumont.  The first, The Paris Cooking School, was published in 2023, and was an Australian bestseller, as well as selling to Portugal, Ukraine, the US and Germany.

She has conducted many talks, workshops and other presentations, for both children and adults, right across Australia.

In 2019 Sophie received an AM award in the Order of Australia honours list for her significant service to literature.
