“I think reading is important because of its neurology – unlike watching images on a screen and listening to recorded sounds, reading requires action, requires processing. The input into the brain is words (on a page, screen or audio file), but the brain then goes to work creating the pictures and (with print and screen) the sounds, building something beyond that source material. That demands deep engagement, and there’s a big pay-off for that… I could go on about this, and regularly do.”
