Hazel Edwards OAM is an award-winning author of books for children and adults. Her beloved picture book series ‘There’s a Hippopotamus on Our Roof Eating Cake’ has been hugely popular for almost forty years, inspiring a musical stage production and a short movie. Hippo gets lots of fan mail.
Awarded the Australian Society of Authors’ Medal in 2009, Hazel has been nominated three times for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. She was also the 2021 Australia Reads Ambassador, and received the Monash University Distinguished Alumni award for Education in 2022.

Her latest YA book, Wasted? (Bookpod) explores a mid-ocean Garbage Patch state where asylum seekers recycle bio fuel for visas, led by 16 y.o Head of Government known as The GG.
