2020 Sydney Morning Herald’s Best Young Australian Novelist
“Reading good writing makes you feel less alone—especially when you read a book that shows you a new way to look at the world. Or a book that makes you realise the hardships you’re facing are being worked through by so many other people too. Make sure you’re also reading books by people who don’t look like you, act like you, see the world in the same way as you. Read books set in Perth, in Addis Ababa, in Dublin, in Hanoi or Texas. Reading is connecting, I think. It builds empathy and understanding. It also helps me to live a life where I take notice—the biggest gift.”

I will read silently or aloud, I will read by myself or in a crowd. I will read a story that matters to me.”
